Philippe de Champaigne
born: Brussels, Spanish Netherlands [now Belguim]; 26 May 1602
died: Paris, France; 12 August 1674
portrait, historical, and religious painter.
After his training in Brussels, as a young man of nineteen, Champaigne arrived
in Paris seeking work. Nicolas Poussin hired him to help decorate the Luxembourg
Palace.
