Here is a biographical outline of Rembrandt's life. The two numbers before each text entry are year and age of Rembrandt.

1606   Rembrandt born; son of Harmen Gerritsz, a miller, and Neeltgen Willemsdochter van Suytbrouck, daughter of a baker. He was 9th of 10 children; 7 survived childhood.
1614 8 Rembrandt enrolls in the Latin School at Leyden.
1620 14 Rembrandt enrolls in Leyden University and begins an apprenticeship with Jacob Isaaksz van Swanenburgh.
1624 18 Rembrandt has a 6 month apprenticeship with Pieter Lastman in Amsterdam
1625 19 Rembrandt returns to Leyden and set up as an independent painter with Jan Lievens (1607-74)
1628 22 Gerrit Dou(1613-75) becomes Rembrandt's first student... apprenticeship lasts until 1632
1629 23 Costantijn Huygens visits Rembrandt and Lieven in Leyden.
1630 24 Rembrandt's father dies.

1631 25 Rembrandt moves to Amsterdam
1633 27 Rembrandt is betrothed to Saskia van Uylenburgh(1612-42).
1634 28 Marriage on the 22nd of June. Joins the Guild of St. Luke in Amsterdam.
1635 29 Rembrandt rents a home where his first child Rumbartus is born. Rumbartus lives only 2 months.
1637 31 Rembrandt moves to Binnen-Amstel in the "sugar refinery". He gets Ferdinand Bol(1616-80) as an apprentice.
1638 32 Rembrant's second child, Cornelia, is born and dies less than a month later.
1639 33 Rembrandt moves into a great house in the Sint-Anthonisbreestraat. This is now called the Rembrandt House; the street is now named Jodenbreestraat.

1640 34 Rembrandt has a third child, Cornelia, who lives slightly longer than a month. Rembrant's mother dies and is buried 14th September.
1641 35 Rembrandt has a fourth child, Titus. He is baptised 22 September.
1642 36 Saskia dies on 14 June. Geertje Dircks employed by Rembrandt as a nurse for Titus. He begins a liaison with her.
1647 41 Hendrickje Stoffels(1625-1663) is employed as a maid servant. She later becomes Rembrandt's mistress.
1649 43 Geertje Direks sues Rembrandt for breach of promise. Has to pay her 200 guilders per year.

1650 44 Rembrandt has Geertje Direks detained in the women's house of correction in Gouda.
1654 48 Rembrandt has a girl by Hendrickje, Cornelia, who is baptized the 30th of October. In December he takes out a mortgage to pay off his house.
1656 50 Rembrandt transfers his house to Titus; inventory drawn up by a court of insolvency.
1657 51 First sale of Rembrandt's possessions.
1658 52 Rembrandt's house sold; another two sales of his possessions; he moves to a smaller house.

1663 57 Hendrickje dies and is buried in Westerkerk, Amsterdam.
1668 62 Titus is married to Magdalena van Loo on 10 February.  Titus dies and is buried 7 September in the Westerkerk.

Titus' daughter, Titia, is born and baptized on 22 March.

Rembrandt dies on 4 October and is buried 8 October in the Westerkerk.
